Here comes the Steel...

Anytime there is a crane onsite, exciting things are happening.  The photo above is taken from the Concession Building looking East at the Addition.  Over the last couple weeks, several of the steel columns and beams have been installed and the large curved trusses are due to be installed in the next couple weeks.  Alyssa Fee from KJWW Engineeering is the structural engineer for the project and she met with the Niles North Architecture/Engineering class on November 1 to discuss some of the engineering challenges with the project and to give the students an overview of the Structural Engineering profession.

Back on October 5, Legat Architects led a tour of the Niles North Architecture/Engineering students and District 219 staff through the Construction site for the new Niles North Aquatics Center addition.  Aquatics Director, Seth Orlove provided the above video of the tour.  Students were given hard hats to keep, as well as floor plans and building elevations to reference during the tour.  Future tours and presentations are planned for the class, so that the students can be actively involved during the construction process.
